Wednesday Tidbit - Creativity

Tidbit:  Conrad Grebel is about creativity!  This is the time of year where we’re working overtime on our April market samples for High Point, North Carolina’s, International Home Furnishings Show.  The coolest thing we’re working on are four new bedroom groups.  It’s a lot of fun to be in the woodshops brainstorming options and designing new things.  Our woodworkers really enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to create something new.  There will be four completely new bedroom groups coming out in April along with more options for folks to completely customize for their needs.  There is a great sense of accomplishment when a rough paper drawing becomes a beautiful creation in reality.  It’s rare that our furniture turns out exactly like a drawing/sketch.  Often we build and tweak the design as we go.  That’s part of the fun!

Fun Amish Fact:  We’ve had record cold temperatures here in northern Indiana over this past week.  Local schools have been closed since last Thursday.  Even in the Amish tradition schools will close when the temperature is hovering around 0 degrees.  Parents don’t want their kids to be walking or riding their bikes in the extreme weather or on the icy roads.  Even the horses are often left in the warm barn unless they are going to travel only a short distance.  Often the Amish will cover their horses in blankets to help keep the cold out.
