Tuesday Tidbit from Conrad Grebel

Tidbit:  Conrad Grebel is about custom.  Not too long ago we made a “Lizzie’s Hutch” from our Amish catalog (Amish Heirlooms) with chicken wire in the door frames instead of wooden panels.  In addition, the interior designer wanted a Benjamin Moore paint combined with our Tobacco finish.  The photo below shows a very cool creation!  Do you have someone who needs a custom piece for their home?  Let us know!

Just for Laughs:  ”My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I’ve finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already.”– Dave Barry

Fun Amish Fact:  I have many photos that I’ve taken in my woodshops over the years of the Amish working their craft.  I’m often asked how that’s possible to have those if the Amish don’t like to be photographed.  While a valid point, the folks who work as part of the Conrad Grebel family know that we use the photography so as not to “glorify” any one person.  Our photography is used for educational purposes.  The 4th Commandment found in the book of Exodus in the Old Testament says, “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.” (Exodus 20:4).  With photography the Amish feel as though a photograph can make us vain because we humans tend to look at ourselves wondering how we look.  Therefore, the temptation is to make ourselves an “image” instead of looking completely to God.
