Grandma Edna's Sugar Cookies

2 c. sugar

1 c. shortening – half oleo – half crisco

2 eggs

1 1/4 c. evaporated milk

1 tsp. baking soda (mix in the milk)

1 tsp. baking powder

3/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla

4 1/2 c. flour (if making drop cookies)

5 1/2 c. flour (if rolling out for cutout cookies)


Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Add baking soda to milk and mix in. Add baking powder, salt and vanilla. Mix in flour, adding a cup at a time. 


Bake slowly at 325 to 350 for 10-12 minutes. Watch to not over bake. Cook and decorate.


Optional: Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before baking instead of frosting.
