Built to Last
Have you ever heard the saying, “They just don’t make things like they used to!” We’ve all said it or heard it from our parents or grandparents when it comes to appliances, clothing or whatever. The fact is, for furniture that mantra is true as well. Not too much furniture is made today to last for generations like it used to be made. In America’s early days furniture was made by hand by very skilled craftsmen. It was a true art. Wood furniture was put together by using joinery techniques that complimented the wood’s natural elements. Today that is rare in the mass-produced world in which we live. Too many screws and nails are used to hold wood together instead of the age-old joinery techniques that have been proven to last. When shopping for new furniture look at how it was put together. If it was built with old-fashioned joinery it may just become a priceless antique one day!
